Fine anni 80, il periodo in cui le pagine di Autosprint diventano il mio portale personale verso il magico mondo delle corse automobilistiche. E' lì che, quasi per caso, incappo nelle brevi cronache della F3 inglese, in cui impazza un giovane pilota finlandese, Mika Hakkinen. Ricordo vividamente il rituale di ritagliare con cura gli articoli, preservando i trafiletti per comporre un collage che raccontasse la storia di questo talento emergente. La mia scuderia del cuore, la Lotus, diventa il palcoscenico di un destino che si sta dipanando sotto i miei occhi. Hakkinen, dopo i trionfi nella F3, varca i confini della Formula 1, iniziando la sua avventura proprio nella mitica squadra inglese. Le stagioni con la Lotus sono eccitanti, ma la sete di successo di Hakkinen cresce. Il passaggio alla McLaren è un susseguirsi di emozioni, con tanti podi ma nessuna vittoria. Poi, come un dramma inaspettato, un brutto incidente getta un'ombra sulla sua carriera. Hakkinen, come una figura mitologica, si rialza più forte di prima. Inizia a vincere, arrivano addirittura due mondiali consecutivi nel 1998 e nel 1999. Forse non è il miglior pilota di tutti i tempi, ma per me The Flying Finn è IL MIO NUMERO UNO indiscusso.
Late 1980s, the period when the pages of Autosprint became my personal portal to the magical world of auto racing. It was there that, almost by chance, I stumbled upon the brief chronicles of British F3, in which a young Finnish driver, Mika Hakkinen, was raging. I vividly remember the ritual of carefully cutting out the articles, preserving the blurbs to compose a collage telling the story of this emerging talent. My favorite team, Lotus, became the stage for a destiny unraveling before my eyes. Hakkinen, after triumphs in F3, crosses the borders of Formula 1, beginning his adventure right in the legendary British team. The seasons with Lotus are exciting, but Hakkinen's thirst for success grows. The transition to McLaren is a roller coaster of emotions, with many podiums but no wins. Then, like an unexpected drama, a bad accident casts a shadow over his career. Hakkinen, like a mythological figure, rises again stronger than before. He begins to win; even two consecutive world championships come in 1998 and 1999. He may not be the best driver of all time, but for me The Flying Finn is MY UNDISPUTED NUMBER ONE.
